Building the Future of FAIR and Interoperable Climate Adaptation Data

In April 2026, researchers from the Climate-Adapt4EOSC project participated in two collaborative workshops hosted by the University of Cambridge, with a shared focus on interoperability, FAIRification, and cross-domain climate adaptation data ecosystems.

The workshops brought together more than 15 participants, including experts from CODATA, The University of Manchester, Technovative Solutions LTD (TVS), and the University of Cambridge. Participants represented a range of expertise, including FAIRification, ontology development, semantic interoperability, and climate adaptation data management.

The first workshop, organised in collaboration with the TOGETHER Project, explored interoperability challenges and opportunities across climate adaptation and disaster risk management ecosystems. Discussions focused on how different communities, platforms, and data services can better connect and exchange information in ways that support more effective climate resilience planning.

The second workshop focused on Climate-Adapt4EOSC FAIRification activities and the development of interoperable climate adaptation services within the EOSC ecosystem. Participants examined how data and services can be made more accessible, reusable, and sustainable through shared standards, common vocabularies, and improved metadata practices.

Across both workshops, partners highlighted the importance of harmonised metadata, semantic interoperability, and collaborative governance. These elements are essential to ensuring that climate adaptation data and services remain accessible, reusable, and meaningful over time.

By bringing together experts from research, technology, and climate adaptation communities, Climate-Adapt4EOSC continues to support the development of data ecosystems that are not only FAIR, but also truly interoperable across domains.
