Climate-Adapt4EOSC publishes first newsletter: key updates from year one

The Climate-Adapt4EOSC consortium is pleased to present the first edition of its newsletter, marking the conclusion of the project’s first year since its launch in January 2025. This newsletter provides stakeholders, collaborators and the broader research community with a concise overview of the project’s objectives, milestones achieved to date, and upcoming activities within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) ecosystem.

Introduction to Climate-Adapt4EOSC and the EOSC Context

Climate-Adapt4EOSC is a Horizon Europe-funded initiative that aims to strengthen climate adaptation research by enhancing the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) nature of climate data and services through integration within the EOSC framework. The project seeks to overcome barriers to data interoperability and accessibility, enabling more effective collaboration across disciplines and research communities dealing with climate change adaptation.

The EOSC initiative supports researchers, innovators, policymakers, and citizens by providing a federated environment where diverse datasets, analytical tools and digital services can be published, discovered and reused in an open science-oriented ecosystem. Climate-Adapt4EOSC contributes to this vision by advancing FAIRification practices and the development of semantic frameworks that facilitate cross-domain data exchange.

Highlights from the First Year

Since the project’s inception, the consortium has been active in a range of international engagements and internal coordination activities, demonstrating rapid progress in both outreach and technical development:

  • Participation in international events: Over the past months, partners have represented Climate-Adapt4EOSC at 15 external events aimed at showcasing project objectives, engaging stakeholders and disseminating early outcomes.

  • Outputs: The consortium has published five project videos on its dedicated YouTube channel, offering insights into specific services and thematic aspects of the project’s implementation. The project’s website has attracted more than 2,300 visits since July 2025, illustrating substantive interest in the project’s activities and resources. Additionally, the project’s LinkedIn page has grown to 323 followers, reflecting increasing engagement from the research and policy community.      The newsletter’s first issue has been distributed to an initial cohort of 180 subscribers, providing an early channel for direct communication and updates to interested stakeholders.

Key Consortium Meetings and Activities

The project’s first internal milestones were established during the kick-off meeting and first General Assembly, which convened consortium members in Aigaleo, Greece in February 2025. This initial gathering facilitated strategic alignment and planning for subsequent work packages.

In July 2025, a follow-up General Assembly took place in Grenoble, France, co-hosted by project partners Artelia and CSTB. This assembly served to consolidate technical progress and enable cross-partner exchange, including site visits to laboratories focusing on climate adaptation technologies.

Integration into the EOSC Landscape

Climate-Adapt4EOSC continues to strengthen its integration within the broader EOSC ecosystem. The consortium was represented at the 2025 Coordination Meeting of EOSC-related Projects, held in Brussels, where 33 EOSC projects convened to share insights and alignment strategies.

Across 2025, the project also organised workshops and contributed to sessions on data interoperability and open science approaches at International Data Week and other global forums, highlighting the relevance of FAIR data practices for climate adaptation research.

International Events Beyond Europe

In line with its global ambition, Climate-Adapt4EOSC has extended its outreach beyond Europe, with project-related events and engagements taking place in Australia and China. These activities underline the project’s commitment to fostering international dialogue on FAIR data practices, semantic interoperability and climate adaptation, and to aligning European efforts with global research and innovation communities.

By engaging with stakeholders across different continents, the project contributes to the exchange of best practices and supports the development of interoperable solutions that can be applied across diverse geographic and institutional contexts.

Collaborations with FAIR2Adapt and Shared Initiatives

Collaboration between Climate-Adapt4EOSC and the FAIR2Adapt project has been a notable feature of the consortium’s engagement strategy. Joint workshops held during 2025 have explored themes such as FAIRification, semantic interoperability and climate data innovation, facilitating knowledge exchange and reinforcing synergies between complementary research efforts. Looking Ahead

The first newsletter also outlines upcoming milestones, including the third General Assembly, scheduled to take place in Aveiro, Portugal in February 2026. This gathering will provide an opportunity to review progress to date, refine strategic priorities and coordinate activities across work packages as the project enters its second year of implementation.
