CA4EOSC Interactive

Objectives

Explore our open-source tools, contribute to their development and engage with the Climate-Adapt4EOSC community.

Climate-Adapt4EOSC is developing and adapting a range of open-source tools and services to support FAIR data management, interoperability and integration within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

CA4EOSC Interactive brings together the project’s technical developments and opportunities for engagement, providing researchers, developers, data providers and other stakeholders with access to software resources, technical discussions and collaborative activities.

Whether you are interested in exploring the project’s tools, testing their functionalities or identifying opportunities for reuse in other research contexts, discover how you can contribute to the Climate-Adapt4EOSC ecosystem.

CLIMATE-ADAPT4EOSC main objectives

The project’s dedicated GitHub repository provides access to seven publicly available software repositories, covering different aspects of FAIR data management, legal and organisational interoperability, research data documentation and climate impact assessment.

These developments are designed to address specific project requirements while also offering potential applications beyond climate adaptation research.

Software

Dataset Profiles (dsprofile)

A utility for creating profiles of geospatial datasets in different formats to support their FAIRification.

Potential applications: Helping research infrastructures, environmental data providers and geospatial data platforms improve dataset descriptions and facilitate data discovery and reuse.

Software

ODRL Infrastructure (odrl-infra)

An infrastructure based on the Open Digital Rights Language (ODRL), incorporating FAIR identification through decentralised identifiers (DIDs).

Potential applications: Supporting machine-readable data access and usage policies across research infrastructures, data-sharing platforms and other environments requiring interoperable rights management.

Software

Legal and Organisational Interoperability (LOI)

A framework providing automated tools to convert licences into standardised, machine-readable ODRL policies.

Potential applications: Helping data providers and research infrastructures improve the interpretation and management of licensing conditions, supporting interoperability across different data-sharing environments.

Software

Dataverse

A project-specific fork of Dataverse, an established open-source research data repository platform supporting the management, preservation and sharing of research datasets.

Potential applications: Supporting research data repositories and organisations seeking to adapt existing data management infrastructure to particular technical or interoperability requirements.

Software

Nectar Publisher

An adapted version of an existing open-source project, providing initial developments towards a tool for documenting research variables.

Potential applications: Supporting structured variable documentation and improving the understanding and reuse of research datasets, particularly in data-intensive research environments.

Software

Synthetic Impact Workflow

A demonstration workflow for climate impact assessment using synthetic data.

Potential applications: Exploring and testing climate impact assessment processes, supporting methodological demonstrations and providing a potential starting point for adapting workflows to other research contexts.

Software

Footnotes

A software component providing footnote functionality for commonly used web browsers.

Potential applications: Exploring approaches to referencing and contextualising information in browser-based environments.

Climate-Adapt4EOSC encourages researchers, developers and technical experts to explore its open-source components and contribute to their continuous improvement.

Each GitHub repository provides access to its available source code and an Issues section, where users can follow reported problems, raise technical questions or suggest improvements.

How can you contribute?

  • Explore the available tools and assess their potential applications in your research or technical environment.
  • Report bugs, technical limitations or interoperability challenges through GitHub Issues.
  • Suggest additional functionalities or improvements based on your experience.
  • Share feedback on the usability, documentation and potential reuse of individual components.

Climate-Adapt4EOSC builds on existing open-source technologies to support the development of interoperable research data solutions.

Some components, including Dataverse and Nectar Publisher, are maintained within the project’s GitHub organisation as forks of existing software projects.

A fork allows developers to create a separate version of an existing codebase, making it possible to introduce adaptations while retaining a connection to the original software.

Within Climate-Adapt4EOSC, this approach provides opportunities to explore project-specific functionalities, address technical integration requirements and build on established open-source developments.

Documenting these adaptations is important to help external users understand how the project’s versions differ from the original solutions and assess their potential relevance to other research infrastructures.
